This experience is waiting for you!

Experience Authentic Sami Culture – Close to Nature, Reindeer and Living Traditions

With us, you do not witness a staged performance – you encounter a living culture.

We are reindeer herders, and reindeer husbandry has been part of our family for generations. With pride and openness, we invite you into our way of life, our traditions, and our story.

Upon arrival, you are warmly welcomed by Sami hosts. Your journey begins with personal stories and photographs from the spring migration – one of the most important events in the reindeer herding year. You will gain insight into how we live in harmony with nature and follow the rhythm of the eight Sami seasons.

You will meet our majestic reindeer up close and learn about their essential role in Sami culture and society. Guests have the opportunity to feed the animals and understand the deep bond between herder and herd.

For those seeking a truly Arctic experience, we offer traditional reindeer sledding through the forest – just as our ancestors travelled for generations. In the evening, you may be fortunate enough to witness the Northern Lights dancing across the sky, while you sit quietly in the sled listening to the soft crackling of the reindeer’s hooves in the snow.

In our museum lavvu, we share deeper knowledge about Sami history, traditions, beliefs, and reindeer husbandry.

The experience concludes in our large lavvu around the open fire. In this warm and intimate setting, we serve cake and hot drinks while sharing joik – our ancient vocal tradition that reflects the spirit of the land. There is time for conversation, questions, and meaningful cultural exchange.

Guests who wish to explore further can participate in Sami handicraft (duodji), sewing their own reindeer leather bag under guidance – a hands-on connection to tradition and craftsmanship passed down through generations.

Your visit can also include dining at Norway’s largest Sami restaurant. We serve traditional dishes based on local ingredients – especially reindeer – prepared with deep respect for nature and heritage. Enjoy your meal in our cozy restaurant.

Reindeer Sledding –

Arctic Day & Northern Lights Experience

Experience reindeer ride in the old traditional way, in  sled, behind a reindeer.
Reindeer ride can be experienced in daylight or in the evening.

Duration 2 hours

Experience reindeer sledding the old traditional way – seated in a sled behind a reindeer, just as our ancestors have travelled for generations. This is not a mass tourism attraction. This is a living part of our culture.

As you glide silently through the forest, you hear only the soft crackling of the reindeer’s hooves against the snow. The Arctic air, the stillness and the closeness to nature create a rare sense of peace.

Evening tours give you the chance to search for the Northern Lights. If weather and sky conditions are favorable, you may witness the magical aurora dancing above you. The tour can also be experienced in daylight, when the Arctic landscape reveals its beautiful winter colors.

Along the way, we stop at a traditional lavvu where our Sami guides share stories about our culture, history, and semi-nomadic way of life. Around the fire, we serve cake and a hot drink in warm and intimate surroundings.

We operate in small groups only – ensuring a personal and authentic experience.
